Poco’s past is not fully known. It is known that she was from the Florida panhandle, a good saddle horse, even though she had been foundered for several years and was considered a chronic founder case. Her owner was forced to either let her go to a good home or suffer the demise of being put down. The owner, whom I had been contacted by, informed me of her situation. I had not seen Poco in person, only by a few rough hoof pictures, but the description of Poco was one that led me to believe there was no reason to put this horse down.

I notified a few clients whom I felt confident enough in to be able to assist me with her rehab and who could give Poco a good home. The great folks in Bronwood, Ga. at Starlight Quarter Horses got together and worked out a plan in short order. Poco was moved from Florida to Georgia the very weekend that Hurricane Charlie hit the Gulf Coast. Poco, and the rescue team, made it back to Georgia in fine order. Poco was tired and sore from the trip, but she made it to the farm in otherwise good shape.

With the love, caring and great help from Evelyn and everyone at the Monzie’s farm, Poco has made a remarkable recovery thus far. At the time of Poco’s move, she was abscessing in several feet, the soles were split with the inner hoof capsule starting to show through, even though Poco is more of a sinker, though there was definite rotation. Working on Poco required the help of TLOP pads and two strong men to help hold and stabilize Poco to be worked on.

As of this writing (November 2005) Poco is recovering quickly and nicely. She has even done well enough to include light duty riding a few times a week as part of her rehabilitation program. And each time, Evelyn winds up with tears of joy in her eyes. A good feeling indeed.

Poco is still recovering, but is recovering very well. Great care, constant attention and timely trimmings have helped her recover to the point she is today. She has gained weight slowly, but surely and safely. Her coat is shiny and healthy and her eyes are bright. Her personality becomes more and more evident every day, and Poco is a superb, smart, gentle and well trained horse. Poco’s eyes are full of joy and pride, as are everyone else’s, every time she gets saddled up and rides off for a short round trip and back.

Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to discuss your horse's condition.
